| Laying manner and direction |

Generally speaking, there are two kinds of
laying manners, ordinary lay and Lang's lay,
except for some special wire ropes.
Ordinary lay is a laying method in which
the laying direction of the strands is opposite
to that of wire rope.The basic wires on surface
run parallel with the axis of the wire rope.
Basic wires on surface of the ordinary-lay
wire rope have shorter contact area with
the touching object,therefore,ordinary-lay
wire rope is under the greater influence
of friction. But on the other hand, it does
not easily kink and is easy to handle, so
this kind of wire rope has a wide range of
application in various industrial field,
such as machinery, constrnction, fishery,
shipping, etc.
Lang's lay is a laying method in which the
laying direction of the strands and the rope
is the same. Basic wires on surface of the
Lang's lay wire rope have longer contacting
area with the touching object, therefore,it
receives smaller damage caused by friction.
This characteristic plus its superior flexibility
adds longevity to the wire rope. So this
wire rope is preferred to be used for cableway
and mining . However,Lang's-lay wire rope
must be handled with care since it tends
to be undone and kink.Two kinds of laying
methode-Z lay and S lay, combined with ordinary
lay and Lang's lay result in four types of
wire ropes, namely ordmary Z, ordinary S,
Lang Z, Lang S. Ordinary Z is most widely
used.
